Analytics in Kentico Cloud

There is now a lot of talk about headless or decoupled CMS. And trust me it is on my topic list. But until it comes I would like to share my experience with Kentico Cloud Analytics tools. They should help you organize, track, segment, personalize and analyze contacts.

Kentico cloud Analytics should be something like the marketing tools in Kentico EMS, but no that deep, more as an additional value to the Kentico cloud products.

One important note before you start with this product: it is in development, so some essential features could be missing and I encourage you to submit feedback.

Probably you are asking yourself why you should try this when it is still in development, and you're not using Kentico cloud. There are few reasons:it is simple to use, install and easy to start.  

Setting up Kentico Cloud Analytics on your site

To install register at Kentico Cloud page: https://app.kenticocloud.com/sign-up A demo project is created. We will start by adding our project (domain). Have in mind that it doesn’t require to be a site that is using Kentico EMS or Kentico Cloud, you can add it to any site. Click on the dropdown with domains (Sample Project) and click My projects. Enter your project name and click +.

After your project is added, go to Development. On this screen, you can see Tracking code. Click on the button Copy to clipboard and paste it in your site HEAD element. If you are not too technical ask for some assistance. In short add this tracking code as you would add any.

Data, data, data

Now try to visit your site and fill in the form, or leave it for few days to collect your visitor data. Every user is tracked, but when they fill in the form we have a user identity. Based on user engagement we can now analyze data.

When you log in to Kentico cloud and open the Analytics screen, you should see a simple and nice report about your contacts.

You also have list of popular pages and a map view.

If you click on the contact icon you will see all of your contacts.

We can see contact journeys, visits, sessions, link, time, and duration. The second tab "Form data" will reveal the site form data that user has filled in.

Now with all this data we can do some segmentation. Click on the icon representing Segments.

On the right corner, there is a + sign, click on it to add a new segment rule.

We currently have 3 rules by which we can segment:

  • Visited page
  • Visited any page from section
  • Submitted form from page

Based on any of these criteria you can create a segment group like in my example with marketing automatization.

On the Segments page, when you click on any of segments, you can download the segmented data in CSV format with first name, last name, and email. This data can be imported to a CRM or a mailing list.

Editing Segments is not currently supported, but as I heard it is work in progress.

Conclusion

Kentico Cloud marketing tools looks very promising. I believe it will be a nice addition to Kentico cloud, and it's great that you can use it on any site. Up to 1,000 contact are FREE. I encourage you to try it and feel free to provide feedback with features that you would like to see.

One important part that is not covered by this blog post is personalization. That requires some development skills and it will be covered by future blog posts.
